A front passes over New Zealand today moving in a west to east fashion, this may carry some unstable weather for the North Island. This afternoon in the clearance behind this front, parts of the lower eastern South Island may see thunderstorms also.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers move through this morning, heavy with thunderstorms then clearing away early afternoon. Once showers clear areas of sun break through. Northerly winds change to the west as the day moves along.
Highs: 21-23
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Showers move through Taranaki in the morning then clear to some sun, chance of an isolated heavy fall (perhaps some thunder) then spreading elsewhere by midday. Showers clearing away from other areas by late afternoon as northerlies change west to northwest. Showers push back into Taranaki in the evening.
Highs: 18-23
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with northerly winds, showers push into the Wairarapa around midday (possibly heavy) then a shower or two may move further north late afternoon. Showers mostly clearing evening as northerlies tend northwest.
Highs: 23-27
Wellington
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, some rain for a time around midday then some sun may break through in the afternoon as breezy northerlies tend northwest.
High: 19
Marlborough & Nelson
Some morning cloud / rain especially about Nelson and the Sounds, coastal Marlborough may stay dry although still the risk of a shower. Sunny areas develop in the afternoon as northerlies tend gusty northwest.

Canterbury
Morning high cloud then mostly sunny, breezy north to northwesterly winds. About South Canterbury there may be a brief spell of morning rain then sun breaks through, mid to late afternoon isolated showers develop possibly heavy with thunderstorms then clearing in the evening.
Highs: 20-24
West Coast
Morning rain then easing, areas of rain pick up again later in the afternoon possibly heavy with thunderstorms as northerlies tend breezier northwest.
Highs: 16-18
Southland & Otago
A period of morning rain then easing, showers pick up from afternoon, some may become heavy with thunderstorms especially late afternoon. Rain picks up later in the evening about Southland then elsewhere overnight as southwesterly winds freshen.
Highs: 16-20
