A large broad low rotates onto the North Island today from the Tasman Sea, further unsettled weather likely today for both Islands.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and some high cloud, showers develop in the afternoon, perhaps an isolated heavy fall with some thunder then easing in the evening. East to northeasterly winds tend southerly by evening.
Highs: 19-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny spells, showers spilling over into Kapiti at times from the east. Showers develop in the afternoon north of about Palmerston North, some may be heavy with thunderstorms then easing in the evening. Winds mostly from the southeast however tending onshore for a time in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-24

Eastern North Island
Heavy rain about Wairarapa early on then easing to showers during the morning. Hawkes Bay and Gisborne are mostly sunny then south to southeasterly winds develop in the afternoon bringing showers, rain moves into Gisborne in the evening then Hawkes Bay overnight.
Highs: 17-23

Wellington
Rain, easing to the odd shower and dry spells from midday. Southeasterly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Morning rain then the odd shower or drizzle patch, afternoon sun breaks through for Nelson with long dry periods. East to southeasterly winds, breezy about the Marlborough coast.
High: 16-20

Canterbury
Showers or drizzle patches at times, areas of rain north of Banks Peninsula. Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

West Coast
Sunny spells for North Westland, there may be a morning shower about Buller, winds from the southeast. South Westland is mostly sunny with some high cloud, light winds tend onshore in the afternoon. Fiordland may see an isolated shower late afternoon / evening otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 19-22

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny about Southland and inland Otago, coastal Otago may see a drizzle patch then afternoon sunny spells are possible. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-21
