A large low pressure system brings unsettled weather to most of New Zealand today, it may appear calm this morning for much of the North Island then conditions deteriorate this afternoon.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mainly dry morning with areas of sun. Showers then develops around midday, becoming heavy in the afternoon with thunderstorms and hail, easing evening. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-17
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning sunny spells with light winds, a chilly start inland. Isolated showers develop in the afternoon (especially inland), some may be heavy with thunderstorms and hail then clearing at night.
Highs: 14-16
Eastern North Island
Early showers clear, some sun breaks through. Showers developing again in the afternoon (especially inland), some may be heavy with thunderstorms and hail then clearing at night. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 16-17
Wellington
Sunny spells, the odd shower possible mainly afternoon (especially inland). Light winds.
High: 15
Marlborough & Nelson
Morning sun, a cold start especially inland. Isolated showers possible in the afternoon especially about inland areas (possibly heavy with small hail) then easing later in the evening. Light winds.
Highs: 14-16
Canterbury
Morning heavy rain then easing to showers, rain may pick up again later in the evening. Winds mostly from the south.
Highs: 9-12
West Coast
Mostly sunny about South Westland with southeasterly winds, rain moves in overnight. North Westland sees sunny spells and the odd shower with light winds, during the afternoon showers may become a bit more beefy especially about Buller then clearing later in the evening.
Highs: 13-16
Southland & Otago
Rain, heavy at times especially in the east. Rain may ease to showers for a time in the afternoon. Fresh south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-13
