A cold southerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, strong for the North Island then easing this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny with some cloud at times, there may be a morning shower or two otherwise mainly dry. Breezy southerly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Areas of rain with fresh south to southeasterly winds, rain eases overnight. About Taranaki skies are drier with just the chance of a shower, mainly morning then some sun breaks through.
Highs: 8-13

Eastern North Island
Rain with heavy falls possible, gusty southerly winds.
High: 11-13

Wellington
Morning rain eases to showers, brisk to strong southerly winds with gales likely through Cook Strait.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson
A mix of sun and cloud with fresh gusty southerly winds, strong about the Marlborough coast.
Highs: 12-14

Canterbury
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, the odd light snow flurry to 500m. Fresh cool southwesterly winds.
Highs: 8-11

West Coast
Sunny with southeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-15

Southland & Otago
Chance of an early shower then cloud breaks to sunny spells in the morning, southwesterlies tend southeast during the afternoon.
Highs: 10-12
