A front pushes northwards over the South Island today, warm northwesterlies precede the front then changing cooler southwest in behind. Westerly quarter winds for the North Island for much of the day, southerlies reach the lower North Island later this evening / overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud with west to southwesterly winds, picking up a little from afternoon.
Highs: 24-26

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, later in the evening or overnight a southerly change brings some rain.
Highs: 20-23

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, winds tend northwest inland and northeast about coastal Hawkes Bay / Gisborne. Later in the evening or overnight a fresh southwest change brings some rain.
Highs: 23-27

Wellington
Plenty of high cloud with north to northwesterly winds. A late evening southerly change brings some rain.
High: 21

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud, later in the evening a southerly change brings a few showers.
Highs: 23-27

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, a fresh late afternoon southwest change brings a few showers. Drying out overnight.
Highs: 21-26

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with a shower or two possible, rain moves through South Westland in the morning then pushing into North Westland during the afternoon as westerlies change southwest. Drying out overnight.
Highs: 17-20

Southland & Otago
Rain moves through Southland in the morning, clearing by midday. Rain moves into Otago late morning although more patchy by this stage. Conditions drying out in the afternoon with some sun breaking through. Fresh southwesterlies die out later in the day.
Highs: 14-19
