A mix of sunny periods and some cloud in a line from Taranaki through to the Bay of Plenty today, northwesterly breezes and showers moving through at times although dry about the Bay of Plenty and Central North Island to start. Showers becoming more widespread late afternoon possibly heavy at times in most areas then easing at night.
On the east coast expect some cloud and the odd sunny period with light winds, chance of a few showers late afternoon or evening. About the Kapiti Coast and Wellington it will remain mostly dry with some cloud during the day, showers move in from the north later in the evening about Kapiti and in Wellington later at night.
Sunny areas and some cloud on the West Coast and about Nelson today with light winds, cloud increases about Buller and Nelson late afternoon however and showers move in later in the evening. Sunny areas and some cloud in Marlborough with light winds, cloud thickens in the evening. North of Christchurch there may be the odd sunny period in the morning however cloud quickly increases with southwesterly breezes, rain develops in the evening. South of Christchurch expect easterly quarter winds, cloudy with some morning rain easing clearing in areas however developing again in the evening as easterlies freshen. Rain heavy in South Canterbury at night.
In Otago expect some rain nearer the coast, the odd drizzle patch further inland, northeasterly breezes pick up during the morning. Rain may become heavy at night about Dunedin and Oamaru. Cloudy in Southland with drizzle clearing this morning, easterly winds pick up a bit during the day, perhaps a shower at times in the far east of the district for the rest of the day. When the areas of precipitation move over expect snow to fall in the South Island today above 1100m.
16 to 17 degrees once again north of the Waikato today, mid teen temperatures in most other areas although towards the low teens in Wellington and the Central North Island.
13 to 14 degrees on the West Coast north of Hokitika, also about Nelson and Marlborough. 11 to 12 degree high’s elsewhere today in the South Island.
