A south to southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, strong for some coastal regions about the lower North Island. A ridge of high pressure gradually sneaks in over the South Island later in the day bringing cool overnight temperatures.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas and occasional sun, the odd shower possible too (mainly afternoon) otherwise fairly dry. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with occasional showers, becoming less frequent from afternoon. South to southeasterly winds, breezy later in the day. Strong later about coastal Taranaki.
Highs: 17-19

Eastern North Island

Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, southwesterly winds becoming brisk later in the day. Hawkes Bay and Gisborne may be dry first thing with some sun then cloud and a few showers move in mid to late morning.
Highs: 19-20

Wellington

The odd shower, getting drier as the afternoon ticks along with a few sunny spells possibly breaking through. Southerlies become strong after midday.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Drizzle patches or showers, clearing around midday then a few sunny spells breaking through from afternoon. Cool southerly winds.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury

The odd shower or drizzle patch, clearing in the evening. Breezy southwesterly winds.
High: 16

West Coast

Mainly sunny with southeasterly winds, there may be a few early morning clearing showers about Buller.
Highs: 19-22

Southland & Otago

Cloudy areas and occasional sun, sunny spells more frequent for inland areas. South to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 15-19
