Upper North Island

Areas of rain or showers Auckland southwards, easing a tad from afternoon. Winds from the northwest then changing southwest around midnight. Northland stays mainly dry during the day with a mix of sun and cloud, just a few late evening showers as a southwest change moves in.

Lower North Island

Showers turn to rain in the morning for the lower North Island in the west, rain may be heavy at times then easing in the evening as northwesterlies change southwest. The Wairarapa sees areas of rain develop late morning, clearing in the evening. Further north expect thick high cloud, a few spots of rain around midday then sun breaks through in the afternoon as northeasterlies tend northwest.

Upper South Island

Rain for the West Coast of the South Island eases to showers in the afternoon as northerlies change southwest. Some morning rain for Canterbury and Marlborough then becoming sunny in the afternoon as northeasterlies ease, in the evening a southwest change moves into Canterbury gradually moving up to about Banks Peninsula bringing a few showers some of which may be heavy especially in the south.

Lower South Island

Spots of rain in the morning for Otago and Southland, perhaps it may dry out for a time after midday however showers then develop during the afternoon as a southwest change moves in. Showers may be heavy mid to late afternoon about coastal Otago with the chance of a thunderstorm.
