A strong southwesterly airflow eases over the North Island today, northwesterlies develop about the lower South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Areas of cloud and sunny spells, the odd shower possible, mainly morning. Brisk to strong southwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Morning rain or showers clear then sunny spells increase, breezy southwesterlies (brisk to strong about Taranaki) ease in the evening.
Highs: 19-20

Eastern North Island

Morning rain eases then clears, sunny spells increase from midday. The odd shower may cling to Gisborne till late afternoon. Brisk south to southwesterly winds die out around midnight.
Highs: 18-21

Wellington

Any morning showers clear, sunny spells increase with gusty southerlies tending northerly in the evening.
High: 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny with light winds tending north to northeasterly in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-22

Canterbury

Mostly sunny with a touch of high cloud at times, northeasterly winds ease in the evening.
High: 19-24

West Coast

Rain about Fiordland, becoming heavy in the afternoon, gradually spreading into South Westland during the day. The odd shower may reach North Westland later in the evening. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 16-21

Southland & Otago

Any early spots of rain clear then some sun breaks through, showers develop late afternoon for some then clear later in the evening. Northwesterlies tend westerly in the afternoon for most although expect northeasterlies about coastal Otago.
Highs: 18-22
