A gusty northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today meanwhile a front lies over the lower South Island.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Sunny spells about Northland, Auckland and the Bay Of Plenty, cloudier about the Waikato although expect some sun at times. Westerly winds tend more northwest overnight.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy areas and occasional sun, chance of a light shower or two otherwise mainly dry. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
High: 17-18

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and some high cloud, northwesterly breezes gusty about the Wairarapa. Afternoon east to northeast winds possible about Hawkes Bay however.
Highs: 23-24

Wellington

Mostly cloudy with gusty strong northwesterly winds.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson

Thick high cloud with north to northwesterly winds, gusty from afternoon especially about Marlborough where winds may be strong.
Highs: 19-23

Canterbury
Plenty of high cloud, northwesterly winds gusty at times especially inland where winds may be strong. A few spots of rain spreading from the west into the foothills in the evening. Cloud and any rain clearing overnight.

High: 23

West Coast

Heavy rain about South Westland while there are mainly patchy falls further north, rain may become heavy for a time about North Westland later in the evening then clearing overnight for most as breezy northerlies change westerly.
Highs: 15-16

Southland & Otago

Rain develops early morning for Southland then clears around midnight. Otago may be drier to start with some sun then rain from late morning which eases late afternoon before clearing overnight. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-21
