A showery west to southwesterly airflow lies over the country today unstable in some parts especially the west of the North Island. The east coast of the North Island appears to be the place to be.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Early rain eases to occasional showers, showers could be heavy now and then with the chance of a thunderstorm in the afternoon for Northland through to the Waikato. Breezy westerly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Occasional showers, some may be heavy with possible thunderstorms. Breezy west to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 14-15

Eastern North Island

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-18

Wellington

Morning sun then patchy showers possible from afternoon, northwesterly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny areas and some high cloud with breezy northwesterly winds. Any early spots of rain clear.
Highs: 16-17

Canterbury

Morning sun then isolated showers possible from afternoon, more likely from evening with a chance of hail. Southwesterly winds gradually develop.
Highs: 13-14

West Coast

Showers, clearing later in the evening. Northerly winds.
Highs: 11-12

Southland & Otago

A mostly sunny morning then cloud and a few showers move through from afternoon as southwesterly winds freshen. Coastal Otago may remain relatively dry.
Highs: 8-11
