North to northwesterly winds strengthen over the country today, generally dry and warm out east with increasing high cloud. Rain moving in onto the West Coast of the South Island.

Auckland & Northland
Early drizzle clears, a few sunny spells break through in the afternoon but still plenty of cloud about. Westerly winds.
Highs: 23-24

Bay Of Plenty

Morning cloud breaks to sunny spells, light northwesterlies.
High: 24

Waikato & Central North Island

Cloudy periods and a few sunny spells, some early drizzle clears then
moving in again overnight. West to northwest winds.
Highs: 22-23

Eastern North Island

Sunny areas and some high cloud, light northeasterlies. Northwesterlies
pick up about the Wairarapa in the evening.
Highs: 24-26

Western North Island

Cloudy periods with the chance of a light shower, mainly in the morning.
West to northwest winds freshening overnight with some rain moving in.
Highs: 19-22

Wellington

Cloudy with northerly winds, strengthening from afternoon. A few spits of
rain from evening, rain more persistent overnight with northerlies rising to
gale at times.
High: 18

Nelson

High cloud thickening from morning, northerly winds build in the afternoon
becoming strong in the evening. Spells of rain develop around midnight.
High: 21

Marlborough

Thickening high cloud with north to northwesterly winds strengthening in
the afternoon, strong in the evening. A few spells of rain develop later in the
evening.
High: 24
Canterbury
Thick high cloud with northeasterly winds freshening near the coast from
morning, winds more northerly inland and becoming gusty in the evening. A few
spots of rain may move through late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 22-23

West Coast

Cloudy with light rain from late morning then turning to rain in the
afternoon. Rain becoming heavy in the evening. Northerly winds strengthen then
change westerly around midnight.
Highs: 17-18

Coastal Otago

Thickening high cloud from morning, northeasterly winds freshen. Spells of
rain develop late afternoon then clearing around midnight with winds changing
gusty westerly.
High: 19

Central Otago

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, northerly winds build. Spells of
rain develop late afternoon. Rain eases later in the evening with winds changing
gusty northwest.
High: 19

Southland

Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, northeasterly winds. Spells of rain
develop late afternoon. Rain eases later in the evening with winds changing
gusty northwest.
High: 19
