Our large complex low pressure system will start to shift eastwards overnight, slowly opening the gates to the cold southerly airflow that awaits on its flanking side. This cold air will start to affect the lower south from tomorrow morning.
Northland, Auckland & Waikato
Showers, a few heavy falls possible especially about the likes of Northland and the Coromandel. Northerly breezes.
Lows tonight: 10-12
Central North Island, Bay Of Plenty
Showers or showers developing this evening and continuing overnight, there may be a few heavy falls in the mix. Northerlies.
Lows tonight: 9-13
Eastern North Island
Some high cloud developing, northerlies. Some rain spreads from the west overnight into the likes of Hawkes Bay and especially Gisborne.
Lows tonight: 10-11
Western North Island
Cloudy periods and the odd shower, especially about northern Taranaki. Northerlies.
Lows tonight: 9-11
Wellington
Cloudy spells with the odd shower, northerlies.
Lows tonight: 11-12
Nelson
Cloudy with showers developing this evening, one or two may be heavy. Light northerlies.
Lows tonight: 8-9
Marlborough
A few areas of cloud, a period of showers may pass over from the west overnight. Light winds.
Low tonight: 6
Canterbury
Cloudy areas tonight with light winds gradually tending southwest. Some rain develops towards dawn.
Lows tonight: 4-6
West Coast
The odd shower with light winds, clear spells too.
Lows tonight: 7-8
Coastal Otago
Cloudy periods south of Dunedin with the odd shower and snow flurries to 600m towards dawn, clear spells further north although some cloud does increase during the night. Expect west to southwest winds.
Lows tonight: 6-7
Central Otago
Cloudy areas tonight, a few clear spells too. The odd brief spot of rain possible otherwise dry.
Low tonight: 2
Southland
Cloudy with some rain, southerly breezes. Snow lowers to 600m towards dawn on Wednesday.
Low tonight: 5
