A depression west of the North Island slings a front over the top half of the island overnight, this will bring some heavy rain and a risk of thunderstorms. The South Island is dry in the west, the east sees some drizzle.

Northland
Rain, heavy in areas with possible thunderstorms especially in the east then clearing overnight as breezy northeasterlies ease. Clear spells develop after rain clears.
Tonight’s Lows: 9-10

Auckland
Cloudy with the odd shower, rain may become heavy later this evening then from midnight expect some heavy rain then easing towards dawn tomorrow. There may be a thunderstorm or two overnight also. Brisk northeasterlies.

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato
Cloudy with the odd shower, northeasterly breezes. Rain develops later overnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Central North Island
Cloudy with the odd shower, northeasterly breezes. Rain tomorrow morning from dawn.
Tonight’s Low: 10

Eastern North Island
High cloud with east to northeast breezes, some rain develops overnight. The Wairarapa may stay dry however apart from the risk of isolated showers this evening about the ranges which clear.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-13

Taranaki
Showers with northeasterly breezes then clearing for a time later this evening. Rain develops again towards dawn tomorrow morning as winds tend more easterly.

Western North Island
Fairly cloudy with the odd shower this evening, light southerlies tend eastearly overnight. Mainly dry overnight.

Wellington
High cloud with southerly breezes, the odd shower develops overnight.

Nelson
Fairly cloudy with light winds tending southerly overnight, chance of a shower towards dawn.
Tonight’s Lows: 11-12

Marlborough
High cloud with light winds tending southerly overnight. There may be some drizzle overnight also otherwise remaining fairly dry.

Canterbury
High cloud with south to southwesterly winds, cloud increases this evening then drizzle possible overnight.

West Coast
High cloud breaking up overnight, light winds tend southeast.
Tonight’s Low: 11

Southland & Otago
Cloudy with the odd shower, clearing overnight. Cool southerlies.
Tonight’s Lows: 7-8
