TUESDAY: COOL, WEDNESDAY: COOLISH

Yet another day across the country where temperatures weren’t that flash but the winterless north stayed true to form.

Kaitaia, Russell and Paihia took the highet temperature in the land with 16 degrees, Whangarei on 15 and Auckland and Tauranga closely followed behind with 14 degrees.

The South Island saw snow fall to very low levels in parts of Canterbury and Kaikoura, so naturally the winter air was certainly fresh but temperatures were not too low.

Christchurch came in with 8 degrees after sitting on 2 degrees for much of the morning, Timaru was 9, Ashburton 8, Darfield and Lyttleton on 7 with Hanmer Springs on 6.

The coolest centre today was Waiouru on a mere 4 degrees, considerably cooler than the next town in the North island which was Masterton with 8 degrees.

Now if you thought today was a bit nippy, tonight is going to be freezing over much of the nation.

Te Kuiti is looking at minus 1, Taupo on minus 3 and that is just the entree…Queenstown has a hefty frost on the horizon, dropping to around minus 4 but it looks like Alexandra will be at its most bitter, with minus 5. Most areas should feel the chill as the cold air from the southerly remains.

If there is an upside, it looks as if sunshine will reign supreme over the country tomorrow(with the exception of a shower or two in the west and the far south later) and hopefully a gradual thaw, for snow hit regions, will begin.
