Upper North Island
Cloudy skies. Rain about Northland spreads into Auckland, Bay Of Plenty and Gisborne during this morning. Southeasterly winds strengthen reaching gale force for many areas late afternoon and evening, especially Northland, Coromandel, coastal Bay Of Plenty and East Cape. Rain becomes heavy during this afternoon for Northland, northern Auckland, Coromandel, western Bay Of Plenty and East Cape. Rain eases a little in the evening with winds tending more easterly south of Auckland, about Northland winds change westerly.
Lower North Island
Fairly cloudy skies with southeasterly breezes, strengthening during the day gusting to gale force at times from evening especially about western regions and Wellington. Drizzle patches develop on the east coast this morning then turn to rain in the afternoon, rain becomes heavy in the afternoon also. Rain along the west coast spreads south to about Wanganui in the afternoon then eases in the evening, rain may return again overnight especially for Taranaki.
Upper South Island
Cloudy along the east coast with the odd drizzle patch, east to southeasterly winds. Rain moves in during the evening about the hills and ranges of north Canterbury through to Marlborough, also the northwest Nelson ranges area. Rain becomes heavy overnight about the Kaikoura coast. Southeasterly winds become strong from evening about the Kaikoura and Marlborough coastline, winds may gust to gale force at times. Along the West Coast expect mainly fine weather with increasing high cloud, light winds pick up from the southeast in the afternoon.
Lower South Island
Sunny on the West Coast south of Haast with light winds. Mainly sunny for Southland and Central Otago too with east to northeast breezes, expect some high cloud however. Mostly cloudy skies for coastal Otago with brisk northeasterly winds developing during the morning.
