Reports are coming in about a tornado in southern Auckland.

TRN’s Weather Watch Centre received a call around 5pm saying a “funnel cloud” could be seen over Mt Wellington.  Other reports have come in since then.

Head weather analyst Philip Duncan says the afternoon cloud build ups have produced heavy showers over northern New Zealand.  “There is a very large thunder cloud over South Auckland at the moment, visible right across the city.  It may well produce small twisters, heavy rain and hail.  Those in the area should take extreme care”.

We’ll have more details as soon as we get them.
