A tornado has struck the Auckland suburb of Avondale this afternoon.
Northern fire communications said they had received up to five calls just after 1pm, with reports of house roofs flying off and power lines down.
A spokesman said: “We’ve got jobs ranging from lightening striking a house, a roof coming off a garage and tiles coming off a roof of a retirement home. We’ve also got power lines down.”
The spokesman said those areas affected included Ash St, Wairau Avenue, Canal and Riversdale roads.
Ambulance northern communications said they have not received any calls or reports of injuries.

Heard it but was not looking. Quite a noise it made. Lots of sirens. Traffic is flowing freely on Ash Street.

I hope there are no injuries or damage from the tornado.
Blizzard? More like ‘possible blizzard conditions around the coastal hills.
