Here’s what is making the weather headlines today…..
WARMEST IN THE NORTH
Warm temperatures for most North Island regions this afternoon, highs reaching into the low to mid twenties.
Highs will likely be in the late teens or perhaps early twenties if you are lucky, warmer areas will likely be inland away from the coast.
HEAVY SHOWERS THIS AFTERNOON
This is going to be a bit of a theme for the next we while, afternoon heavy showers / downpours thanks to unstable conditions forming for inland hills and ranges. The interior of the South Island sees this develop this afternoon, potentially the ranges south of Napier in the east has a chance of heavy showers too. Any showers that develop may turn thundery.
This evening and overnight about the lower South Island there may be some reasonable rain, the exact placement of this rain is a bit hard to lock down but Southland into Central Otago has a chance.
Overnight heavy rain moves down from the north into Northland and Taranaki as a front pushes in from the Tasman Sea.

HIGH PRESSURE NEXT WEEK
High pressure is going to push over the South Island on Monday next week, starting to expand over the North Island on either Tuesday or Wednesday.
Thursday into the weekend looks like high pressure will dominate.
While the above is true there is likely to be plenty of cloud about, especially for eastern regions. Isolated showers during the afternoons for inland areas too, perhaps even some thunder. A front or two thrown into the mix brings cloud and showers to some.
Keep a track of precipitation coming up here.
