Here’s what is making the weather headlines today….
CONDITIONS EASING
High pressure in the Tasman Sea extends some influence over our weather today, in other words the weather is starting to settled down somewhat.
This will show for western regions especially with sunny skies likely for most. In the east we still have cloud and coastal showers, clearing the eastern South Island later this afternoon but a few showers remain for the eastern North Island.
It will be frosty to start though for some inland areas, and again tomorrow morning.
TEMPERATURES LIFT IN THE EAST FRIDAY – HOWEVER…
There should be a lift in temperatures for eastern regions on Friday thanks to a westerly quarter airflow over the country. High’s in the mid teens for most, but there is a caveat, a cold front moves into the far south around midday reaching Canterbury in the evening so this will naturally bring a drop in temperatures.
Expect rain to develop about the far south Friday afternoon, only showers for Canterbury in the evening as the cold front weakens as it moves northwards. Snow lowers to 400m about the far south in the evening, 600m for Canterbury.
RAIN OUTLOOK
Rainfall for the next seven days looks to be average to drier than average, western regions pick up on the drier than average conditions for the most part but the eastern South Island does to an extent also.
The map below runs from today through to Thursday 10th August. Blue coloring means that part of the country is likely to see more rainfall than would normally be expected at this time of year, red means less rainfall is expected and white is an average amount of rainfall. The more intense either red or blue then either scenario is more true.
