Thursday’s national forecast – Various fronts affect the south

A series of fronts are sandwiched over the lower South Island today bringing some wet weather, drier further north.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud. North to northeasterly winds. Afternoon sea breezes develop in the west.
Highs: 19-21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy, a few showers about Taranaki and Kapiti clear by evening. Northwesterlies.
Highs: 15-18

Eastern North Island

Sun and some high cloud, south of Napier may see slightly cloudier skies. Light winds, afternoon easterlies for Gisborne and Hawkes Bay.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington

Mostly cloudy, a few afternoon spits or showers possible especially in the north. North to northwesterly winds.
High: 17-18

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly cloudy, it may become brighter in the afternoon. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-20

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, scattered rain develops about South and Mid Canterbury in the morning, reaching into North Canterbury in the afternoon, clearing at night. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

West Coast

Mostly cloudy although Buller may see a few sunny spells. Showers south of Greymouth with rain about South Westland, rain becomes heavy overnight. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago
Periods of rain, easing overnight. Rain for coastal Otago is patchier till evening. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 11-14
