A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today, rain or showers for most regions although it will be drier in the east this morning.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy with occasional showers, more frequent in the west. Waikato northwards later in the evening sees rain as a front moves in. Fresh southwesterlies tend westerly in the afternoon then southwest again at night.
Highs: 14 – 16

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Occasional showers with breezy westerly winds, changing southwest later in the evening for Taranaki.
Highs: 9 – 15

Eastern North Island

Cloud clears in the morning then mostly sunny, south of Napier has a few showers from afternoon. Breezy westerly winds.
Highs: 14 – 17

Wellington

A mix of sun and cloud, westerly winds, there may be a shower later in the day.
High: 14

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny for Marlborough, Nelson has a mix of sun and cloud, Tasman has the odd shower. Westerly winds.
Highs: 13 – 15

Canterbury

A mix of sun and cloud, a few showers near the coast or out on Banks Peninsula. Showers later in the evening (more widespread) as southwesterlies freshen. Some brief snow to 800m.
Highs: 10 – 13

West Coast

Showers, drying up this morning for South Westland. A few showers may move back in to South Westland this evening. West to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11 – 13

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, morning showers clear, showers again mid to late afternoon as westerlies change southwest, coastal Otago may only see a few spits. A brief burst of snow to 700 or maybe 600m, conditions ease up during the evening.
Highs: 10 – 12
