A front pushes over the North Island this morning bringing heavy rain then gradually out to the east this afternoon. The South Island sees some rain or showers in the northwest, mainly dry for the lower South Island today with some sun.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Heavy rain eases to showers around midday as breezy northeasterlies change northwest. Heavy rain moves into Bay Of Plenty in the morning then easing there early afternoon. Overnight showers push in from the west with a fresh southwest change, showers may be heavy.
Highs: 16-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain, heavy about Taranaki across to the Central North Island then easing from afternoon as northeasterlies change northwest.
Highs: 13-18

Eastern North Island

Patchy rain, becoming heavy in the ranges of Hawkes Bay and Gisborne towards midday then easing late afternoon.
Highs: 17-19

Wellington

Patchy rain, northeasterly winds tend north to northwest in the afternoon. Any remaining spits of rain clear in the evening.
Highs: 16-19

Marlborough & Nelson

Morning rain, heavy about Nelson, easing from afternoon as northeasterlies tend northerly then remaining spits clearing in the evening.
Highs: 15-17

Canterbury

Mostly cloudy, some sun may break through in the afternoon. A few spits or showers possible late afternoon and evening for a time. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-18

West Coast

Patchy rain or showers north of about Haast. Some sun for Fiordland with high cloud developing from afternoon then showers later in the evening. Light winds.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago
Mostly sunny with some developing high cloud, overnight spits of rain for Southland. Light west to northwesterly winds for most, winds tend east to northeast in the afternoon for coastal Otago.
