Thursday’s national forecast – Cold front heading northwards

A cold front about the lower South Island pushes northwards today reaching the lower North Island overnight, expect a northerly quarter airflow beforehand with warm temperatures in the east.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain with northerly winds, changing to the southeast overnight.
Highs: 14-17

Eastern North Island

Mostly cloudy, spots of rain spreading from the west late morning onwards, drying out in the evening then overnight rain moves back in with southerlies.
Highs: 17-21

Wellington

Rain, easing to showers in the evening then rain picks up again overnight as strong northerlies change to the south.
Highs: 15

Marlborough & Nelson

Rain eases to showers by midday, conditions become dry late afternoon then overnight a few showers push back in as breezy northerlies change to the south.
Highs: 16-18

Canterbury

High cloud, some sun. Rain moves into South Canterbury around midday then spreading northwards during the afternoon as southerlies freshen. Snow overnight to 500m.
Highs: 18-23

West Coast

Rain, perhaps a few heavy falls in the morning. Rain eases to showers or spits overnight as northwesterlies change south to southeast.
Highs: 15-17

Southland & Otago
Rain about Southland pushes into Otago during the morning with southwesterlies, rain eases to showers in the afternoon for Southland, easing to showers overnight for Otago. Snow may lower to 400m later in the day.
Highs: 12-14
