A front moves onto the North Island from the West this afternoon bringing rain to many areas, in the east rain may only be brief however. For the South Island expect morning rain to ease to the odd shower in the west, on the east coast conditions are fairly sunny, a southwest change moving through Otago in the afternoon then Canterbury in the evening brings showers however.
Auckland & Northland
Mostly cloudy with increasing northwesterly winds, rain develops around midday then eases to showers in the evening with a westerly change.
Highs: 19-22
Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Mostly cloudy with a few sunny spells possible in the morning, rain develops around midday then eases to showers in the evening as breezy northwesterlies change westerly. Showers clear before midnight.
Highs: 16-20
Eastern North Island
Northwesterly winds pick up in the morning becoming gusty, expect plenty of high cloud. A few spots of rain may pass over from the west mid afternoon then clearing with sunny areas increasing as winds change westerly.

Western North Island
Rain with strong northerly winds, rain eases to showers in the afternoon with a brisk westerly change then clearing by evening.
Highs: 16-18
Wellington
Periods of rain with strong to gale northerly winds, rain clears in the afternoon with sunny areas then developing. Gale northerlies ease in the evening.
High: 16
Nelson
Rain clears around midday as strong northerlies change westerly, becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon with breezy westerlies easing later in the day.

Marlborough
Periods of rain with strong northerly winds, rain clears around midday then becoming mostly sunny with winds tending northwest and gradually easing. Overnight winds tend southwest with some cloud and the chance of a shower, mainly near the coast

Canterbury
Rain clears by mid morning with sunny areas then developing, light winds. In the evening a southwest change develops bringing showers, showers may be heavy and thundery with hail south of about Ashburton along the coast. Showers ease overnight.

West Coast
Heavy morning rain eases to the odd shower by midday as northerly winds change brisk westerly.

Coastal Otago
Sunny with some high cloud, light winds. Early afternoon a cold southwest change moves through bringing showers, possibly heavy and thundery with hail. Showers clear later in the evening. A few snow flurries fall to 400m in the evening before showers clear.

Central Otago
Areas of cloud with the odd shower, westerly winds. A gusty southwest change early afternoon brings heavier showers with the risk of some hail and thunder. A few snow flurries may fall to 400m late afternoon and early evening before clearing.

Southland
Areas of cloud with the odd shower developing in the morning, westerly winds. A gusty southwest change around midday brings heavier showers with the risk of some hail and thunder. A few snow flurries may fall to 400m late afternoon and early evening before clearing.
