A ridge lies over most of the country today however a low pressure system does move away from the upper North Island taking some morning rain with it. About the far south of the South Island some cloud does build in the afternoon as northwesterlies freshen.

Northland
Rain in the morning, potentially heavy early on eases to clear by midday, expect sunny spells to increase in the afternoon especially in the east. Some cloud may continue to hang about the western coastline however it should clear at night. Expect brisk southerly winds which ease later on in the day.

Auckland
Rain, possibly heavy at first eases to clear by mid morning. Expect a mostly sunny afternoon. Brisk southeasterly winds ease in the evening.
Highs: 16-17

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Morning rain (which could be heavy about western Bay Of Plenty and northern Waikato) clearing to a mostly sunny afternoon, south to southeasterly breezes.
Highs: 15-18

Eastern North Island
Morning cloudy spells for the Wairarpa and Hawkes Bay, becoming mostly sunny by afternoon with light southerly breezes. About Gisborne however expect cloudy skies for much of the day with drizzle patches which clear later in the evening. Expect south to southeasterly breezes.
Highs: 15-16

Wellington & Western North Island
Chance of an early shower otherwise expect mostly sunny conditions with light southerlies early on tending northerly by midday about Wellington and at night for the Western North Island.
Highs: 13-16

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny with light winds.
Highs: 14-15

Canterbury
Sunny spells, some high cloud increasing from late afternoon. Expect northeasterly breezes near the coast, northwesterlies inland.
Highs: 13-14

West Coast
Mostly sunny with light winds, some cloud at times from afternoon and showers about South Westland from late afternoon or evening.
Highs: 13-14

Coastal Otago
Mostly sunny with some high cloud gradually increasing during the day. Light winds.
Highs: 12-13

Central Otago
Morning sunny spells after a chilly start, then some cloud increases from midday onwards. Overnight there is chance of showers, mainly in the west. Expect north to northwest winds, gusty at times from evening.
Highs: 9-10

Southland
Chance of an early shower, mostly sunny otherwise with increasing high cloud. Breezy north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-13
