Expect a very wet and windy day for New Zealand.

The low that has been moving slowly across the Tasman the last few days will cross the South Island tonight.  As it does, heavy rain, showers, thunderstorms and gusty winds are all expected for various locations.

For the North Island, periods of rain are expected.  Some of it could be heavy.  A few thunderstorms are also possible, especially this morning.  Winds are expected to reach gale force about Wellington and Wairarapa.

For the South Island, periods of rain are also expected.  Heavy rain is likely.  A few thunderstorms are possible across Nelson and the West Coast.  Gale force winds are expected to develop about Marlborough and possibly northern Canterbury.
