A very weak area of low pressure over the North Island today brings cloud and showers for most at some point meanwhile in the South Island higher pressure brings generally more settled conditions with morning drizzle or showers clearing about the upper South Island.

Upper North Island

Cloudy this morning with west to northwest breezes, the odd shower or drizzle patch. Conditions clearing up a little in the afternoon with some sun making an appearance. About southern Waikato, inland Bay Of Plenty and the ranges of East Cape showers become a bit more organised later in the afternoon and may be heavy. At night showers may push further north into other parts of the Waikato and coastal Bay Of Plenty however Auckland should remain dry. Dry in the morning about Gisborne with some sun and light winds, southerlies develop around midday with some increasing cloud, showers by evening.
HIGHS: 24-26, 27 in Gisborne

Lower North Island

Showers or drizzle patches clearing around midday becoming restricted to the east coast, a few sunny areas then developing in the west. Winds generally from the southeast a little brisk about Wellington at first then easing. Showers about the Central North Island, East Cape and perhaps inland Hawkes Bay and inland Taranaki becoming organised later in the afternoon possibly heavy then easing later in the evening and clearing from some areas at night.
HIGHS: 25-26 in the west, 17-18 in the east although perhaps getting into the low 20’s about Hawkes Bay

Upper South Island

Cloudy skies in the east with drizzle or showers about the Canterbury foothills clearing this morning, a few sunny areas possible this afternoon otherwise remaining mostly cloudy. Drizzle may even return for a time about coastal areas north of Banks Peninsula in the evening, light southeasterlies tend northeast later in the afternoon. About the Kaikoura area drizzle or showers may not clear till mid afternoon. Morning cloud breaks in Nelson with sunny areas increasing, light winds. On the West Coast north of Hokitika expect mostly sunny weather after any morning cloud clears, there is a chance of morning drizzle north of Buller. Winds tend northerly in the afternoon, a few isolated showers may develop late afternoon about inland ranges from Tasman southwards through to the Glaciers then clearing at night.
HIGHS: 22-24 on the West Coast. 21-22 for Nelson, 17-19 in Canterbury and Marlborough

Lower South Island

Mostly sunny weather with light winds. Some cloud develops along the Otago coastline from afternoon as northeasterlies freshen.
HIGHS: 17-19, mid 20’s in inland areas.
