Upper North Island

Mostly cloudy skies with northerly breezes, the odd shower about. Rain develops around midday possibly heavy and thundery then easing mid afternoon, remaining showers clear in the evening for a time. Northwesterlies freshen after lunch. Gusty northerlies about Gisborne with cloudy skies, brief showers spreading from the west at times.
HIGHS: 21-23, 25-26 in Gisborne

Lower North Island

Generally dry this morning however cloud increasing with northerly breezes, rain moves in to Taranaki, the CNI and Manawatu around midday then Kapiti, Wellington and Wairarapa mid afternoon. Rain about Taranaki may be heavy and thundery. Winds becoming gusty from the northwest in the afternoon also. Cloudy about Hawkes Bay with breezy northerlies, the odd shower may spread from the west at times especially late afternoon then clearing in the evening with gusty northwesterlies developing.
HIGHS: 19-20 in the west and about Wellington. Mid 20’s about Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay.

Upper South Island

High cloud increasing today with northeasterly breezes for most, the odd shower develops around midday on the West Coast with some rain moving into Nelson. Rain moving into Marlborough in the afternoon with gusty northerlies. Canterbury may see some rain late afternoon or evening for a time mainly in North and South Canterbury.
HIGHS: 18 on the West Coast, 20-22 in Nelson through to Canterbury.

Lower South Island

Sunny with increasing high cloud and northerly breezes tending more northeast along the Otago coast, showers about Fiordland and South Westland. Mid to late afternoon cloud thickens and lowers for most with a few patchy areas of rain developing, southwesterly winds begin to freshen in the far south.
HIGHS: 17-19 in for most, 15-16 on the West Coast south of the Glaciers.
