A cold southwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning showers then some sun breaks through, showers not clearing Northland till evening although the odd one may still move into western areas. Southwesterly winds.
Highs: 12-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Morning showers and snow flurries to 400m clear, afternoon sunny spells develop. Cold southwesterly winds.
Highs: 6-13

Eastern North Island

Partly cloudy, showers clip Mahia Peninsula during the day and may move into coastal Gisborne at times from afternoon. Wairarapa has a showery day. Snow flurries to 400m. Fresh southwesterly winds.
Highs: 9-12

Wellington

Occasional showers, some may be briefly heavy with small hail then clearing at night. The odd snow flurry to 400m, more likely about eastern hills. Fresh cold southerlies.
High: 9

Marlborough & Nelson

Mostly sunny, southwesterly winds.
Highs: 10-12

Canterbury

Cloud breaks to sunny areas for inland Canterbury, showers near the coast especially Rakaia northwards may be heavy with small hail then becoming restricted to Banks Peninsula in the afternoon and easing. Snow to 400m.
Highs: 7-10

West Coast

Sunny after morning frosts, light south to southeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-12

Southland & Otago
Showers, snow flurries to 400m in the morning then lifting. West to southwesterly winds, fresh about coastal areas.
Highs: 7-10
