A weak low pressure system lies to the west of the North Island today, expect a light north to northwesterly airflow over New Zealand.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of mid and high level cloud, rain spreads into Northland from the west later in the evening, a few showers reach Auckland overnight. Late afternoon / evening isolated showers possible about the Waikato. Northerly winds.
Highs: 22-25

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and some cloud, isolated showers possible late afternoon / evening about inland areas then clearing overnight. A chance showers could be heavy with a risk of thunderstorms. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 18-25

Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and some high cloud, light northeasterly winds from midday.
Highs: 25-28

Wellington
Cloud breaks to a few sunny areas in the afternoon, breezy north to northwesterly winds.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and some high cloud for Marlborough, northwesterly winds. Nelson and the Sounds has a mostly cloudy day although some sun breaks through for at time in the afternoon, northerly winds.
Highs: 20-25

Canterbury
Mostly sunny with morning high cloud clearing away, north to northwesterly winds change southerly overnight.
Highs: 27-30

West Coast
Cloudy about South Westland with patchy rain, sunny spells further north. Northeasterly winds. A few showers may move into North Westland later in the evening.
Highs: 15-22

Southland & Otago
Cloudy areas about Southland with the odd shower, clearing in the evening. Westerly winds. Otago has a mix of sun and cloud with warm temperatures, northwesterly winds, changing southerly about the coast late afternoon / evening.
Highs: 16-27
