Upper North Island

Southwesterly breezes in the west today from Waikato through to Northland, cloudy areas with some sun at times mainly late afternoon. Sun more likely about the Waikato from earlier in the afternoon. There is also the risk of a light shower or drizzle patch on the coast in the west at times however it will be mostly dry. Mostly sunny for Bay Of Plenty and Gisborne after morning cloud, light winds tending northeast on the east coast.
HIGHS: 18-19 degrees today about most areas in the west including Auckland. 20-21 for the Waikato and Bay of Plenty. 23-24 in Gisborne.

Lower North Island

Cloudy periods about Taranaki with west to southwest breezes, chance of a drizzle patch morning and evening with sunny areas in the afternoon. Sunny areas developing about Kapiti, Wellington and the Central North Island by midday, light winds building from the north in Wellington from afternoon. Mostly sunny about Hawkes Bay through to Wairarapa with northeasterly breezes right on the coast, any morning cloud clears however some high cloud from afternoon.
HIGHS: 18-19 degrees in Taranaki through to Wellington, 20-21 further inland away from the coast. High’s of 23 to 24 in eastern regions.

Upper South Island

Cloudy areas and some sun at times in Buller, light west to southwest winds. Further south in North Westland skies will be cloudy with the odd shower or drizzle patch from evening. Mostly sunny in Nelson and Marlborough with light winds and high cloud, high cloud in Canterbury also with northeasterly breezes tending northwest in the afternoon nearer the coast.
HIGHS: 16-17 from North Westland northwards on the West Coast. 22 in Nelson. 25-26 in Marlborough and Canterbury.

Lower South Island

High cloud for Otago, northwesterlies freshening in the afternoon. The odd shower may spread from the west into the likes of Queenstown in the afternoon. Cloudy in South Westland and Fiordland with north to northeasterly breezes, showers in South Westland with rain in Fiordland becoming heavy for a time in the evening. High cloud in Southland with breezy northwesterlies, some rain develops right on the coast in the evening then clears at night.
HIGHS: Mid 20’s possible in North Otago near the coast and also Central Otago. Low 20’s in South Otago. 16 to 17 in Southland. 14 to 15 about Fiordland and South Westland.
