Southerlies spread onto the North Island today potentially bringing in a thundery change, cool for the South Island but brightening up for South Westland.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Rain, possibly heavy with thunderstorms especially about Waikato and Bay Of Plenty then easing to showers in the afternoon as northerlies change westerly, showers clear overnight.
Highs: 22-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Areas of rain or showers, southerly winds pick up in the morning. Showers clear later in the evening.
Highs: 15-19

Eastern North Island
Some rain about the Wairarapa spreading into Hawkes Bay and Gisborne in the afternoon as southwesterly winds freshen, rain may become heavy for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne with a chance of thunderstorms then clearing overnight.
Highs: 17-23

Wellington
The odd shower, clearing evening. Cool south to southeasterly winds.
High: 15

Marlborough & Nelson
A few showers, mainly morning then dry spells increasing from afternoon. Staying mostly cloudy. Some rain for the northwest Nelson area may be heavy at times then easing from afternoon. East to Southeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Canterbury
Showers ease, clearing around midday near the coast however the odd shower may linger about inland areas till evening. Some sun breaks through near the coast late afternoon. Southeasterly winds tend easterly.
Highs: 12-13

West Coast
Areas of rain north of about Hokitika with easterlies, dry spells increase from afternoon. Sunny spells further south with light winds.
Highs: 18-21

Southland & Otago
Sunny spells for Southland with light southeasterly winds. Otago is mostly cloudy with light east to northeast winds.
Highs: 14-19
