An area of low pressure continues to bring in unsettled weather to New Zealand today, isolated heavy downpours / thunderstorms about some inland parts of both Islands this afternoon.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud for Northland and Auckland, risk of an isolated shower late afternoon / evening otherwise mainly dry. A higher chance of isolated heavy showers about southern Auckland later in the day. The Waikato and Bay Of Plenty start out with a dry morning then afternoon showers develop (mostly away from the coast), showers may become heavy with thunderstorms then easing at night. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Some morning sun possible, mainly dry. Showers develop in the afternoon becoming heavy about inland areas with thunderstorms then easing overnight. Some coastal parts may remain dry all day. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.
Highs: 20-25

Eastern North Island
Morning sun possible, may be a shower or two about also. In the afternoon skies clouding up with showers more likely especially inland about the ranges, these showers becoming heavy with thunderstorms then easing at night. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 20-22

Wellington
Mostly cloudy, may be a shower or two (mainly afternoon). Southeasterly winds.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly cloudy with the odd shower, especially about inland areas. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-21

Canterbury
Morning showers, perhaps some rain about North Canterbury then dry spells increasing from afternoon especially near the coast. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 14-16

West Coast
Sunny spells, a few showers for Buller. During the afternoon cloud thickens bringing an increased risk of showers, especially just inland about the ranges right the way down to Fiordland. Fiordland and Buller may see showers turn heavy with the risk of an isolated thunderstorm. Winds are light tending onshore in the afternoon.

Southland & Otago
A mix of sun and cloud for Southland and Central Otago, coastal Otago sees mostly cloudy skies with the risk of a shower or two. East to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 15-23
