A front bringing in a cool change and some rain pushes northwards over the South Island during today, reaching the lower North Island this evening.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, some rain moves in around dawn on Friday. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17-22

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas, chance of a light shower or two. Rain develops later in the evening bringing the risk of a few heavy falls for a time. Northwesterlies.
Highs: 16-19

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud from afternoon, rain develops in the evening about the Wairarapa as northwesterly winds change southerly. Rain moves northwards overnight.
Highs: 22-24

Wellington
Mostly cloudy, evening rain develops as gusty northwesterly winds change southerly.
High: 17

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, rain develops late afternoon or evening as northwesterlies change southerly.
Highs: 18-23

Canterbury
Southerlies freshen in the morning bringing rain, rain may be heavy about inland areas for a time. Easing to showers in the evening then clearing overnight.
Highs: 13

West Coast
Rain with heavy falls spreading northwards along the coast during the day, cloud breaking away in the evening as northerlies change to the south or southeast.
Highs: 14-16

Southland & Otago
Morning rain eases to the odd shower, clearing in the evening. Cool south to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 11-13
