A northwesterly airflow slowly builds over the South Island during today while a ridge of high pressure lies further north.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas for Auckland northwards with light southwesterlies, further south expect sunny areas and some high cloud. Some fog possible morning and night about the Waikato.
Highs: 13-15

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and some high cloud, light winds.
Highs: 11-13

Eastern North Island
Cloudy areas with the chance of a shower or two, mainly about the likes of Mahia Peninsula and coastal Gisborne. The Wairarapa is sunnier with some high cloud. Light southwesterlies.
Highs: 12-13

Wellington
Sunny areas and some high cloud, light winds.
High: 12

Marlborough & Nelson
Mainly sunny although expect some high cloud at times, light winds.
Highs: 11-13

Canterbury
Sunny areas and some high cloud, light northerlies for inland areas. Northeasterly breezes near the coast.
Highs: 10-12

West Coast
Mostly cloudy, the odd light shower also mainly about South Westland. Later in the evening / overnight heavy rain moves into Fiordland. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 10-13

Southland & Otago
Some high cloud, morning spots of rain for Southland. Further spots of rain possible later in the evening or overnight for most. Northerly winds.
Highs: 9-13
