A ridge lies over New Zealand this morning however it then gets quickly shoved away as a front moves onto the lower South Island late morning, reaching the North Island in the evening.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud for Northland and Auckland, chance of morning shower in the west. Late afternoon or evening some rain moves through. The Waikato and Bay Of Plenty is mainly sunny then expect evening rain also. Southwesterly winds tend westerly late afternoon.
Highs: 17-19
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Early showers clear then expect some sun for a time, late afternoon showers move back in. West to northwesterly winds change gusty southwest overnight.
Highs: 10-17
Eastern North Island
Morning showers then mostly sunny from afternoon, some high cloud from evening then there may be a spot of rain later in the day. Southwesterlies tend northerly in the evening.
Highs: 15-16
Wellington
Any early showers clear then expect sunny spells with gusty southerlies easing in the morning, there may be a few further showers in the evening.
High: 14
Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud, a few spots of rain possible in the afternoon about Nelson and evening for Marlborough. Afternoon northwesterly winds.
Highs: 13-15
Canterbury
Some high cloud, chance spot of rain in the afternoon then an evening southwest change brings a few showers.
Highs: 10-12
West Coast
Rain develops about South Westland in the morning, moving into North Westland early afternoon. Rain clears in the evening as northerlies change southerly.
Highs: 9-13
Southland & Otago
Dry at first with high cloud, some rain develops mid to late morning then eases to showers in the afternoon as northerlies change fresh southwest.
Highs: 10

Why are metservice forecasting gales again for auckland tonight? You guys aren’t and gusts on windy.com and nullschool look ok… are they being extra cautious?
