Ex Tropical Cyclone Fehi crosses over the South Island today bringing some very unsettled weather, a front connected into this low moves over the North Island from the west afternoon onwards.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
The odd shower then afternoon rain with heavy falls, perhaps even a thunderstorm. Rain eases later in the evening or overnight for most. Rain not becoming heavy about the Bay Of Plenty till evening, continuing through the night. Strong northeasterly winds may gusty to gale at times.
Highs: 24-25
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy or becoming mostly cloudy in the morning, the odd shower then rain moves into Taranaki around midday then elsewhere in the afternoon with a chance of heavy falls. Thunderstorms possible for Taranaki then rain eases in the evening. Gusty northerly winds, strong to gale force about Taranaki.
Highs: 23-29
Eastern North Island
Sunny areas and some high cloud, some rain spreads from the west into the Wairarapa during the afternoon then moving northwards in the evening and overnight. Winds gusty from the north.
Highs: 27-30
Wellington
Some sun then cloud increases, chance spit or two. Late afternoon / evening rain moves through, possibly heavy before easing by midnight. Northerlies rising to gale force this morning, possibly severe gale at times.
High: 26
Marlborough & Nelson
Scattered rain, heavy about Nelson in the morning then Marlborough in the afternoon as a front passes over, easing in the evening. There may be a thunderstorm or two about. Strong to gale northerly winds ease at night.
Highs: 24-25
Canterbury
Some high cloud with strong northerlies, rising to gale or possibly even severe gale (mainly inland) from afternoon. Rain in the high country heavy for Mid and South Canterbury. Late evening or overnight a southwest change brings rain.
Highs: 27-30
West Coast
Rain with heavy falls, torrential falls possible for South Westland. May be a thunderstorm or two about. Easing afternoon / evening as gale to severe gale northeasterly winds tend strong northwest.
Highs: 20-24
Southland & Otago
Rain with heavy falls, especially Otago Peninsula southwards then easing later in the day / overnight. Flooding looks possible especially about Southland. Southeasterlies strengthen, tending more southwest in the afternoon and rising to gale about coastal areas.
Highs: 14-18
