A northeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand today while a front in the Tasman Sea approaches the west of the South Island during the day, pushing in overnight.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy areas and sunny spells with the odd shower possible, especially in the east. Breezy northeasterly winds.
Highs: 18-20

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Taranaki sees cloudy areas from morning, rain develops later in the evening with freshening north to northeasterly winds. Mostly sunny elsewhere with some developing high cloud, patchy overnight rain. Light winds tend northerly.
Highs: 19-22

Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud developing, thickening later on. A few spots of rain overnight. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 19-21

Wellington
Mostly sunny with some high cloud gradually increasing, northerly winds.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny for Marlborough with increasing high cloud, northwesterly winds pick up in the afternoon. Overnight spots of rain. Nelson sees skies cloud over in the morning, chance of a shower from afternoon then rain develops later in the evening.
Highs: 17-22

Canterbury
Any morning low cloud or fog clears then mainly sunny with north to northeasterly winds, some developing high cloud. There may be an overnight spot of rain otherwise mainly dry.
Highs: 22-25

West Coast
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, rain develops late afternoon or evening becoming heavy at night. Freshening north to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-19

Southland & Otago
Any morning low cloud or fog clears then mostly sunny with increasing high cloud, overnight there may be a spot of rain or two. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 21-27
