A low and front combo moves towards the North Island today out of the Tasman Sea, bringing rain which is heavy at times about the upper North Island, especially this evening. The South Island sees an easing northeasterly airflow.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Rain, heavy at times, especially evening then easing later on / overnight. Breezy northerly winds, strong northwesterlies about Northland from evening.
Highs: 15-18

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy with rain, more persistent about Taranaki and the Central North Island than further south. Dry spells at times too, more so in the south i.e. south of Wanganui. Rain mostly clears in the evening although perhaps lingering about the Central North Island till overnight. Light northeasterly winds.
Highs: 12-14

Eastern North Island

Areas of rain, clearing later in the evening. Northeasterly winds.
Highs: 13-15

Wellington

Any early showers clear, cloud breaks to some sun late in the day. Northeasterly winds.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson

Showers ease then clear around midday, becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon. Northerly winds.
Highs: 13-15

Canterbury

Morning cloud breaks to mostly sunny weather, breezy northeasterly winds ease.
High: 15

West Coast

Showers clearing around midday then sunny areas increase, northerlies ease.
Highs: 12-13

Southland & Otago

Showers or some rain, clearing around midday as northeasterly winds change lighter southwest. A few sunny spells break through.
Highs: 11-12
