A cold southwesterly airflow continues to lie over the country today, conditions overall will start to ease however especially later today. Frosts are possible overnight for inland sheltered areas.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty

Cloudy areas with brisk southwesterlies, easing evening. Chance of the odd shower. The Bay Of Plenty sees sunny areas breaking through from afternoon.
Highs: 17-19

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Morning showers clearing then sunny areas increase. Gusty west to southwesterly winds ease later in the evening.
Highs: 14-17

Eastern North Island

A few showers develop for most early in the morning then around midday mostly clearing. Coastal Wairarapa and a few exposed areas like Mahia Peninsula don’t see showers clear till evening however. A few sunny areas possible in the afternoon, winds gusty from the southwest all day not easing till overnight.
High: 13-15

Wellington

Cloudy areas and the odd shower possible, strong southerly winds ease later in the day.
High: 13

Marlborough & Nelson
Mostly sunny weather, a few coastal showers for southern Marlborough however which don’t clear till evening. Southwesterly winds gusty near the coast ease later in the day with frosts possible overnight in sheltered areas.

Highs: 15-16

Canterbury

Coastal showers becoming restricted to Banks Peninsula by midday then clearing there in the evening, cloudy areas and a few sunny spells elsewhere with cloud breaking for most in the evening. Strong southwesterly winds ease later in the day. Chance of an overnight frost in sheltered areas.
High: 12

West Coast

Sunny with southwesterly winds easing during the day.
High: 15

Southland & Otago

Mostly cloudy, the odd shower about but long dry spells too especially inland. Showers for coastal Otago clearing around midday. Gusty southwesterly winds tend more westerly by midday then ease later.
Highs: 11-12
