A moderate to strong northwesterly airflow lies over much of the country today meaning cloud and a few showers for some western regions and sunnier weather out east. The upper North Island sits under a ridge bringing mainly settled conditions although there is the low risk of a late afternoon / evening isolated shower.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Mostly sunny weather with cloud more frequent in the afternoon for some, chance of an afternoon isolated shower otherwise dry. Light winds.
Highs: 21-23

Western North Island (including Central North Island)

Cloudy areas and a few sunny spells, westerly quarter winds build from
morning Taranaki southwards.
Highs: 20-23

Eastern North Island

Sunny weather with north to northwesterly breezes.
Highs: 23-25

Wellington

A mix of sun and cloud with gusty northerly winds, strong at times. Gales in Cook Strait.
High: 19

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny with a little high cloud later in the day, northwesterlies becoming
gusty in the afternoon about Marlborough.
Highs: 21-25

Canterbury

Sunny areas and some high cloud gradually increasing, northwesterly breezes
gusty at times inland.
High: 24

West Coast

Mostly cloudy with northwesterly winds, patchy showers about South Westland
turning to rain later in the day. The odd light shower moves into North Westland
later in the evening.
Highs: 18-19

Southland & Otago

Plenty of high cloud with gusty northwesterly winds strong at times, a few
spits of rain west of the Southern Lakes area. Later in the evening a southerly
change moves into Southland bringing some rain.
Highs: 18-22
