Our resident low pressure system continues to brew over the North Island tonight, once again some places will remain dry while others could see heavy rain and even thunderstorms. The South Island remains fairly settled under a ridge of high pressure although some cloud is starting to move onto the upper half of the island with some drizzle developing during the night in Marlborough.

Northland
Clear spells and some cloud, light winds tend southerly or southwest. There may be a shower about southern parts of the region overnight, also in the west.

Auckland & Waikato
Cloudy periods with the odd shower, east to southeast winds. Showers may be more overnight about Auckland.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Bay Of Plenty
Periods of rain with southeasterly winds. Heavy falls about western Bay Of Plenty with thunderstorms, easing towards dawn.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Central North Island
Cloudy spells with southeasterly breezes. The odd shower possible, more likely north of Lake Taupo.
Lows tonight: 3-5

Eastern North Island
Rain about Wairarapa with heavy falls at times, showers further north. Southeasterly winds, brisk in the south.
Lows tonight: 6-7

Western North Island
Areas of rain easing to the odd shower tonight, brisk southeasterly winds. Cloudy areas for north Taranaki with breezy southeasterlies.
Lows tonight: 7-8

Wellington
Cloudy with brisk southerly winds, showers develop overnight turning to rain around dawn.
Low tonight: 7-8

Nelson
High cloud thickens and lowers overnight, a few light showers possible by dawn. Southeasterly breezes.
Lows tonight: 3-4

Marlborough
Cloudy with southeasterly breezes, drizzle develops overnight with a few light snow flurries to 600m.
Lows tonight: 3-4

Canterbury
Cloudy areas north of Banks Peninsula this evening spreading into Mid Canterbury overnight, clear further south with frosty conditions. Light winds.

West Coast
Mainly clear skies with light winds, some high cloud for Buller.

Coastal Otago
Mainly clear skies with light winds.
Low tonight: 0-2

Central Otago
Mainly clear skies tonight, quite frosty.

Southland
Clear spells and some cloud, cloud more likely near the coast. Frosty, especially inland.
