A cold southerly airflow lies over the country tonight. Snow to low levels, possible sea level at times in the south and some eastern parts of the South Island. Sever gale southerlies spread onto the lower North Island this evening with heavy rain. Heavy snow develops overnight about the Central Plateau.

Northland, Auckland & Waikato
Showers, some heavy at times with a risk of hail. Strong gusty northwesterlies, changing southwest overnight.
Lows tonight: 4-7

Bay Of Plenty
Showers, some heavy with a risk of hail. Gusty westerlies.
Lows tonight: 4-6

Central North Island
The odd shower and snow flurry above 800m this evening with light winds. Southerlies strengthen overnight with rain, heavy snow develops to 700m.
Lows tonight: 0-2

Eastern North Island
Mainly dry with some cloud and northwesterlies. Strong southerlies and rain develop overnight about Wairarapa.
Lows tonight: 2-5

Western North Island
The odd shower with northerlies. Strong to gale southerlies develop later or overnight with rain. Snow develops overnight to 600m.
Lows tonight: 3-5

Wellington
Gale to severe gale southerlies with heavy rain, some hail possible. Snow developing to 600m.
Lows tonight: 5-6

Nelson
The odd shower with gusty cold southwesterlies. Snow to 500m in the hills.
Low tonight: 3-4

Marlborough
Cloudy and cold with strong southerlies gale force at times especially on the coast. Heavy rain eases later, snow to 500m.
Low tonight: 2-4

Canterbury
Cold southerlies tonight, strong about the coast. Wintry showers with snow to low levels, possibly sea level for South Canterbury. Further north expect similar conditions with snow to 200m, this may break a bit lower at times during the night.
Lows tonight: -1-2

West Coast
Cloudy skies with gusty southeasterlies developing.
Lows tonight: 3-4

Coastal Otago
Wintry showers, snow to low levels, possibly sea level at times overnight, strong cold southerlies.
Lows tonight: 1-3

Central Otago
Snow flurries with bitterly cold south to southeast winds, snow eases off at times.
Lows tonight: -2 – -3

Southland
Wintry showers with snow flurries to near sea level, falling right to sea level at times. Bitterly cold southeasterly winds.
Low tonight: 0-2

Hi Phil, Wow here in Levin Very high winds that came out of no where, Its really blowing out there and just before it started we had a couple of power surges, cant get over how quickly it came.

Ok so I have just rescued some of my neighbors recycle bins from smashing into another neighbors car. Amazing wind gusts rushing up the street at least 100 km /hr in whitby.
