A front and low pressure system moves over the country tonight bringing some wet weather to most for a time, there could even be a thunderstorm or two anywhere from coastal Otago through to Banks Peninsula. More details below:

Auckland & Northland
Mostly cloudy with a period of patchy rain or showers this evening, winds change westerly then showers generally clearing later. The odd shower may remain overnight.Tonight’s Low: 13

Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Some rain this evening for a time, possibly heavy about the Central North Island in the west then easing to showers later with a westerly change. Showers clear overnight with clear spells developing.
Tonight’s Low: 9-12

Eastern North Island
Thick high cloud, gusty north to northwesterly winds. Some brief rain overnight as winds change more westerly.
Tonight’s Lows: 12-14

Western North Island
Cloudy with gusty northerlies, the odd shower turning to rain this evening. Rain may be heavy then eases around midnight with a brisk westerly change.
Tonight’s Lows: 10-12

Wellington
Periods of rain with strong to gale northerly winds, rain clears around midnight with a southerly change.
Tonight’s Low: 11

Nelson
Cloudy with gusty northeasterly winds, some brief rain or drizzle this evening then clearing around midnight with a southwest change.
Tonight’s Low: 8

Marlborough
High cloud with gusty northwesterlies, some brief rain this evening. Any remaining areas of rain clear overnight as winds change southwest. Heavy rain about the Sounds clears around midnight.
Tonight’s Lows: 8-9

Canterbury
A southwest change develops this evening about South Canterbury early evening then reaching North Canterbury later this evening. Showers may be heavy with some hail, a chance of thunder also about South Canterbury and Banks Peninsula.
Tonight’s Lows: 6-7

West Coast
Clear spells this evening with westerly winds, a few showers overnight.
Tonight’s Low: 6

Coastal Otago
Showers, some heavy with hail and thundery easing this evening then clearing later. Clear spells overnight with cool west to southwest winds.
Tonight’s Low: 5

Central Otago
Some cloud with a few showers this evening then clearing as southwesterly breezes tend southerly. Skies clearing up overnight with cold temperatures.
Tonight’s Lows: 1-2

Southland
Showers with a risk of small hail, cold southwesterlies ease later this evening and tend more westerly overnight with showers easing.
Tonight’s Low: 3
