A low in the Tasman Sea moves a little closer to New Zealand overnight, this will mainly be noticed in terms of increasing cloud across the country. The main places to see wet weather will be the West Coast of the South Island, Southland and Central Otago.
Auckland & Northland
Mostly cloudy skies with westerlies tending northerly tonight, the odd light shower about Auckland clearing this evening.
Lows tonight: 9-10
Bay Of Plenty, Waikato & Central North Island
Cloudy areas, increasing about the Bay Of Plenty from this evening. Westerlies ease tending north to northeasterly overnight. The odd light shower about the Waikato and Central North Island clearing this evening.
Low tonight: 3-8
Eastern North Island
Clear with some high cloud developing overnight, light winds.
Low tonight: 4-5
Western North Island
Clear spells and some cloud, high cloud increases overnight. Light northerlies. Northerly breezes about northern Taranaki with cloudy periods, chance of a brief light shower at times.
Lows tonight: 7-10
Wellington
Areas of cloud increasing this evening, cloud periods overnight. Breezy northerlies.
Lows tonight: 10-11
Nelson
Some high cloud gradually increasing, light west to northwest winds.
Lows tonight: 6-7
Marlborough
High cloud gradually increasing overnight, northwesterlies ease off this evening. Light winds overnight.
Lows tonight: 5-6
Canterbury
High cloud thickens this evening, light northeasterlies.
Lows tonight: 5-6
West Coast
Rain, possibly heavy at times with a risk of isolated thunder then easing to showers overnight. Northeasterlies.
Low tonight: 9
Coastal Otago
High cloud thickens this evening, light winds. Mainly cloudy skies overnight.
Low tonight: 7
Southland & Central Otago
High cloud with light north to northwest winds. Later in the night some rain develops, winds tend southeast about Southland.
Lows tonight: 4-6
