Thursday Newsfeed: Low moves in, wind & patchy rain spreads across NZ

It’s another windy day for many regions as low pressure moves in against powerful high pressure slowly exiting. Between the low and the high is a ‘squash zone’ of windy weather with northerly quarter winds gusting to gale in exposed places. Canterbury may have some of the strongest gusts inland, but Auckland, Wellington, Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay may also be quite windy.

It will also be warmer than usual again in many places.

Rain also spreads across the North Island later today or tonight with some heavier falls for the South Island’s western side too – once again especially in Westland.

Keep up to date with the latest MetService warnings and watches.

As the low moves into West Coast tonight and Friday it will weaken and fall apart, with high pressure returning to NZ later this weekend.
