Heavy rain is expected about the central and upper North Island this afternoon and evening. This includes places like Taupo, Hamilton and Auckland.
Thunderstorms are also possible for these same regions.
In addition to heavy rain, these storms could produce strong winds and small hail.
Government forecaster MetService is also indicating a risk for thunderstorms all the western regions of the South Island. The risk is low and would be mainly during the night tonight.
Weather data and observations continues to show rain falling on much of the western North Island. The rain is expected to increase in areal coverage and intensity as we go through this afternoon.
