Here’s what is making the weather headlines this weekend….
RAIN – HAWKES BAY AND GISBORNE
Rain continues for Hawkes Bay and Gisborne, there is the potential for a few heavy falls.
Check out the warnings from Metservice at this page here.
FRONT LATE SUNDAY
As we move to Sunday expect a northeasterly airflow to increase, winds becoming a bit gusty for coastal parts of the South Island. Most regions should see some sun but then there will be high cloud moving in ahead of a front in the Tasman Sea. Eastern regions have some mid to lower level cloud in the morning but this breaks away in the afternoon.
Northland and Tasman / Nelson has cloud thicken up from morning then all western areas see mid to lower level cloud thicken up from afternoon with a few showers moving in, later in the day areas of rain develop in the west. There are signs in the models of some instability for the upper North Island from late afternoon or evening so that means the chance of a few thunderstorms and downpours, as the clock clicks past midnight and temperatures drop on land conditions could become more stable so any thundery falls past that point will be coastal.
EASTER MONDAY
Finally Monday, expect more of a north to northwest airflow this time around apart from the far south where winds will be coming in from the east or perhaps southeast.
Western regions have showers or rain, the West Coast north of the Glaciers has heavy falls. We are drier in the east with warm temperatures, but from afternoon some rain starts to spread from the west into Wairarapa down into Canterbury then clearing evening as a front passes over. Overnight the far south may see rain or showers.
A few more thunderstorms are likely too, mainly in the west but Bay Of Plenty could see rumbles also. Check the thunderstorm outlook from Metservice on Sunday to see what Monday’s potential is here.
