Rainfall, some of it heavy, is still expected across the North Island this weekend.
The first bands of rain are already making their way across Northland and Auckland this morning. Rain will continue to overspread the North Island as we go throughout the day. By the time we get to this evening, most if not all of the North Island should be getting wet.
The greatest threat for heavy rain appears to be in the Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. MetService has issued Heavy Rain Warnings for these areas for tonight and Sunday. Rainfall rates of up to 20-30mm an hour are possible.
A frontal boundary that is laying across the South Island promises to keep a few clouds and threats for showers in play today. That’s mainly for the central sections of the island. However, most areas should remain dry.
Keep checking with us throughout the day as this weather situation continues to develop.
